A Message for Our FloWater Community
Years ago, we started FloWater on the basis of a fundamental human right: that everyone deserves access to clean, safe drinking water without the environmentally destructive effects of single-use plastic water bottles.
Over the years, I have subscribed to the belief that company Founders and CEOs should stay focused on their Company vision and mission and avoid leveraging their organization’s voice as a platform for their own views.
As individuals, and as a Company, we must stand up together and express our individual and collective outrage against racism, systemic injustice, and police brutality. We stand unequivocally with the foundational belief in, and commitment to, equality and anti-racism.
Over the past few weeks at FloWater we have engaged in some powerful dialogue among the team. During this process, and through all that has transpired in the news, a unanimous consensus took hold: to not only be a strong voice for equality, but that we also carry a responsibility to be a force for change. Change means action and accountability.
As individuals, and as a Company, we have committed to:
- Increase education and awareness within our organization, particularly among the leadership team, by utilizing an ongoing curriculum of resources that helps us better understand diverse perspectives and align ourselves with actions promoting equality and anti-racism
- Establish a Diversity and Inclusion Unity Team that will be responsible for identifying shortcomings in our organization and opportunities for significant progress, along with specific plans and actions that will include performance metrics and timelines for executing those plans
- Redouble our efforts to recruit, hire and promote a diverse workforce, from our business advisors and leadership team as well as throughout every other area of the organization—including our business partners
- Schedule dedicated time on our Company calendar for our entire team to listen to each other and engage in authentic conversations that generate meaningful progress
These initial steps represent a statement of commitment and action to help move us in the right direction. This is only the beginning of our journey. We are committed to learning and doing more along the way.
Even as a small and growing Company, we have both the responsibility and opportunity to make a substantial difference with our voice and actions. And we will.
On behalf of myself and the entire FloWater Team,
CEO and Co-Founder
